PHIPPSBURG — Frances M. McDonald, of Parker Head Road, Phippsburg, Maine, died on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at the age of 85. Born in Brunswick, Maine, on Oct. 19, 1928, the daughter of Francis Leo McDonald and Emily Ida McDonald of Bath, Maine and Quincy, Ma. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Weymouth, Mass., in 1947 and received her B.S. in education from Lowell State Teachers College in 1951 and a master’s of education from University of Maine in 1956.

Miss McDonald taught in the field of music education in Maine, New York, and Massachusetts for 34 years.

She served as the first woman president of the Boston Catholic Alumni Club in 1974-75 and the first woman president of Catholic Alumni Clubs International from 1978-79.

Since retiring to her home in Phippsburg, Maine, she has been active in music at St. Mary’s Church, Bath, Maine, and St. Charles Church, Brunswick, Maine. She has also been active in music in the community in nursing homes. She was past president of the Popham Beach Improvement Association.

Miss McDonald was a Hospice volunteer for Midcoast Maine.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at David E. Desmond & Son Funeral Home, 638 High St., Bath, Maine. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 144 Lincoln St., Bath, Maine. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Bath, Maine.
