HARPSWELL — Harpswell Community Nursery School will host a silent auction from 7-10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Library Hall on Bailey Island.
Items for bidding include a week-long Homes & Harbors Bailey Island cottage rental, a cruise on a converted lobster boat, a weekend at a Sunday River condominium, a Cathance River Education Alliance camp scholarship, goods from local businesses, and works by local artists and crafters.
The cost of the fund-raising event is $10 per ticket or $15 per couple. Admission includes homemade appetizers and desserts, as well as live jazz entertainment by Tom Porter and Friends. To purchase tickets, contact Director Myrna Koonce at 725-7103 or [email protected]; tickets may also be purchased at the door.
Now in its 12th year, HCNS fosters early learning through compassion, creativity, and community connections. The school aims to serve all children, regardless of ability to pay. This year’s auction will benefit the school’s scholarship fund and serves as the major fundraiser for the year.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
