AUGUSTA — Elizabeth M. Merrill, 98, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, at Grey Birch in Augusta.

She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on May 29, 1916, a daughter of Leslie E. and Frances A. Pike.

She came to Gardiner as the bride of Sidney R. Merrill in June of 1938. She was a nurse at Gardiner General Hospital for many years and at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii for five years. While in Hawaii, she attended Kapaluni College and received her degree to give oncology medications and treatments.

She was a member of the Winter Street Baptist Church in Gardiner for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Sidney R. Merrill, one son, Jeffrey C. Merrill, her parents and her only sister, Phyllis Hogan.

She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Lee of Glendora, CA, two sons, David Merrill and his wife Donna of Woolwich, and Leslie Merrill and his wife Vicky of Concord, NH, 12 grandchildren and several greatgrandchildren. There will be no funeral service. A graveside service will be held at Ripps Cemetery in West Gardiner next spring.
