WEST KENNEBUNK — Alice B. Stone, 86, a resident of Alfred Road in West Kennebunk, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014 at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford, surrounded by her loving daughter, Doreen, and her service dog, Shiva, who never left her side.

She was born in Newmarket, New Hampshire on June 28, 1928, a daughter of Thomas and Florence M. (LaRoche) Roy.

She attended Newmarket schools. She graduated from Kennebunk High School through the adult education program.

In 1952, she married Richard L. Stone, and together they ran Stonys Grocery store in West Kennebunk for several years. She also worked at Jones Diner in Kennebunk as a waitress for several years, the Kesslen Shoe shop, and lastly, at Kennebunk High School in the cafeteria for more than 20 years. She was a CNA and worked private duty for several years.

Alice loved country line dancing and enjoyed being a volunteer at the community Halloween parties. She could always be found helping others, and was very involved with foster parenting. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid dog lover, having several to love over the course of her life.

She was a member of St. Martha’s Church for many years.

Alice was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Richard; as well as four brothers, Gerard, Edgar, Joseph and Richard Roy; and one sister, Irene DeBlois.

She is survived by and deeply missed by: her daughter, Doreen L. Stone of West Kennebunk; her goddaughter and niece, Denise M. DeBlois of Allenstown, New Hampshire, a niece, Sheila Clark of Limington; a nephew, Wayne DeBlois of Allenstown, New Hampshire; a special foster grandson, Kevin Bridges Jr. of Biddeford; as well as several other nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2014 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014 at Holy Spirit Parish, St. Martha’s Church, Portland Road, Kennebunk. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Hope Cemetery after the Mass. Should friends desire, donations in Alice’s name may be made to the American Lung Association of Maine, 122 State St., Augusta, ME 04330, to honor her late husband’s memory.
