Jim was born in Long Island, NY, on April 10, 1956, a son of the late Carolyn (Greco) McQuillan and James and Diane McQuillan of Long Island, NY. He graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School in New Jersey.
Jim spent 34 years as a supervisor for JSUMC; after leaving there he became the groundskeeper for Wolfe’s Neck Farm and worked as an associate for Tractor Supply.
He enjoyed fishing and loved the outdoors. He also had a quick wit about him and was instantly liked by anyone who met him. He was an avid collector and reveled in spending time with his three dogs.
Besides his loving wife Terry, he is survived by his children, Travis Sherman, Jesse Sherman and Rebecca Sherman and a grandson. He is also survived by his siblings John McQuillan, Donna Ertle and her husband Don and Debbie Sherman, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Tommy Sherman. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the First Parish Congregational Church, 442 Hallowell Road, Pownal.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
