BATH — Margaret M. Genthner, 78, of Bluff Road, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born in Bath on Aug. 18, 1936, a daughter of Feuleon T. and Beulah L. Kelley Fowle and was educated in the local schools.

Margaret was proud of her children, Paul and Ellie, and raised them primarily as a single mother. She was very proud to learn how to read in her adult years, and enjoyed her word search puzzles, books, craft kits and crossword puzzles, and would spend hours with her daughter sometimes to the wee hours of the morning to complete one.

Margaret was a member of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary group and loved to attend the meetings and outings that they provided. She was always ready to help anyone in need. She donated blankets to the Humane Society; rescued and cared for her beloved dog “Petty Girl” and cared for her late sister’s cockatiel and cat “Tabitha.”

Margaret was an active member of her community and attended Elmhurst Center, where she especially enjoyed going to the pot luck suppers with her daughter. She also enjoyed going to St. John’s Bazaar and sewing classes.

She cared for her sister Gurdy until her death and was known as Grammy Margaret to the many children she cared for over the years.

Margaret loved her granddaughter Patty and her great-grandson Isaiah, as well as her extended family and friends.

Surviving are her son, Paul Genthner of Topsham; daughter, Ellie Chaples of Bath; a sister, Irene Woodrow of Washington; granddaughter, Patricia Genthner and grandson, Paul Genthner Jr., both of Bath; great-grandson, Isaiah Genthner of Bath; and the many people who loved and cared for her.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wiscasset. To express thoughts and condolences to the family, please visit www.desmondfuneralhomes.com.
