CASTINE — In game one of the Pepsi Mariner Challenge, Maine Maritime Academy’s women’s basketball team went on to defeat the University of Maine at Fort Kent, 63-57 to advance to the tournament championship game on Sunday.
Mary Badeen led the team with 28 points, while tallying seven rebounds. Mariners sophomore and former Mt. Ararat standout Kristi Willey added 13 points and eight rebounds while totaling three assists on the day.
In Sunday’s championship game, the Mariners took on Roger Williams which edged Bowdoin College 58-57 in game two on Saturday.
Though MMA held the Hawks to just 18 points in the first half, the Mariners fell short of the victory, 45- 34. Willey put seven points on the board and collected a team-high nine rebounds as well as totaling three steals.
MMA will return to action this Saturday when it travels to Saint Joseph’s College of Maine.
