BUCKSPORT (AP) — A Bucksport paper mill is set to begin the process of shutting down.
Company spokesman Bill Cohen says production at the Verso Paper Corp. mill will begin to shut down today and will be fully finished by Thursday. That is when clean- up, winterization and mothballing will begin. He says the official shutdown date is Dec. 31.
The mill was originally set to shut down on Dec. 1. Cohen says the company extended the date after it became clear that shutting down and mothballing the mill would not be finished by then.
He says the company’s workers will remain on the payroll until Dec. 31.
