PORTLAND (AP) — The first footgolf course in Maine is shutting down for the season.
Portland officials opened the course in October at Riverside Golf Course and are closing it down for the season on Sunday. Officials touted the course as the first of its kind in the state. It is located at the golf course’s South Course.
A city spokeswoman says footgolf will resume in Portland next year.
The first World Cup of footgolf took place in Hungary in 2012. The mash-up sport combines soccer and golf, and resembles golf played with a kicked soccer ball. The team needing the fewest shots to complete the course wins.
