SHAPLEIGH — Deputies determined the safest way to deal with a man who had allegedly said he was going to shoot an acquaintance in a neighboring town Friday was to wait for him to come out of his house.

So they bided their time ”“ and eventually, at 3:30 p.m. ”“ Andrew Mayer, 46, came out of his home on Owl’s Nest Road to walk his dog, and was taken into custody.

Deputies were summoned to the home at about 10:45 a.m. to answer a report that Mayer was threatening an acquaintance in Acton.

“Numerous attempts to contact Mayer on the telephone were unsuccessful,” said Chief Deputy Bill King in a prepared statement. “Another person was in the residence, so it was determined the safest course of action was to wait for him to emerge.”

King said Mayer was also known to have weapons in his home, and during the course of his arrest, several were removed for safekeeping, King said.
