SANFORD — Two local wrestlers came away with first-place finishes at the annual Spartan Invitational held at Sanford High School on Friday and Saturday.
Biddeford’s Dominick Day and Massabesic’s Mike Risti both captured gold on Saturday evening.
Day picked up his crown at 152 pounds with a pin in 2:54 over Ellsworth’s Connor Petros.
Risti won the 220-pound division with a quick fall over Noble’s Zack Schluntz. The Massabesic senior also won the award for most pins in the least amount of time ”“ racking up four falls in just 2:49.
Also placing in the top three for local teams were Sanford’s Sam Anderson, who placed third at 160 pounds, and Biddeford’s Austin Burnham at 285 pounds.
Massabesic’s Zac Richard (152), Sanford’s Chase Eldredge (170) and Massabesic’s Trevor Walton (195) all finished fourth.
Massabesic’s Leo Amabile (106) and Biddeford’s Brian Livermore (138) were also placewinners as they each finished in sixth place.
Danbury captured the tournament team title with 217.5 points, with Marshwood second and Noble in third. Massabesic was ninth and Biddeford placed 10th.
