OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Old Orchard Beach faced its toughest test of the season to date, but the Seagulls proved they were up to the task. OOB faced a fourth-quarter deficit for the first time all season but was able to come away with a 39-28 victory over Poland in a Western Maine Conference girls basketball game on Thursday.
The Seagulls (6-0) led 19-7 at halftime against Class B opponent Poland, but the Knights (5-4) battled back to take a 28-27 lead with four minutes to play in regulation.
OOB freshman Brianna Plante answered with a 3-pointer and the Seagulls didn’t trail again.
Plante finished with 10 points, while senior teammate Mackenzie Rague went 6-of-8 from the free throw line to ice the game.
Girls Hockey
Biddeford 3, Cheverus 0
The Tigers got goals from their three captains to pick up a win on Thursday.
Mallory Mourmouras, Brea Rivard and Cassidy Petit all beat the Cheverus goalie in the win.
Standout goalie Rebekah Guay stopped nine shots to preserve the shutout.
