BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin College first-year Caroline Watt has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Women’s Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week.
Watt is the second straight Polar Bear rookie to earn the league’s weekly honor, joining classmate Mariah Rawding, who won the honor on Jan. 26.
Watt pulled off the usually tough double, winning the 1,000-freestyle in a seasonbest time of 10:43 and then winning the 200-freestyle with another season-best mark of 1:59 against Colby. However, during this meet, the 1,000 freestyle was combined, so she did not have the benefit of the men’s heat in between to rest. At the end of the meet, she added a lifetime-best in the 200-individual medley and then held her own on a leg of the event-winning 400-freestyle relay.
The Polar Bears claimed a 193-118 victory over the Mules.
Bowdoin is back in action on Saturday at Lewiston to compete in the Maine Event hosted by Bates College.
