OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Margaret Eleanor “Maggie” Grandy, 90, of Cookman Avenue in Old Orchard Beach, died of natural causes Jan. 25, 2015, at Southridge Rehabilitation and Living Center.

She was born in Portland on Jan. 5, 1925, a daughter of Edward B. and Margaret Reidy Geary.

Margaret lived in Old Orchard Beach for more than 60 years.

She graduated as salutatorian in the Class of 1943 from Old Orchard Beach High School. During her high school years she was a member of the girls basketball team, which won the Maine State Championship in its class.

Her working career included being credit manager at the former W.T. Grant Department Store; LynFlex, Saco; the former Trull Nursing Home; Scarborough Downs; and as a toll taker for the Maine Turnpike Authority.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, crossword puzzles and sitting on her screened porch during the summers. She loved watching the Red Sox and the Patriots.

She is preceded in death by: a sister, Anna Clark of Dover, New Hampshire.

She is survived by: a son, Mark Pentilescu of Bonita, California; three daughters, Kathryn Nutial Michaud and her husband James of Peabody, Massachusetts, Karen Nutial of Tigard, Oregon, and Mary Nutial Bly and her husband William of Jacksonville, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Michael, Mark, Nicole, and Isis; two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Sara; and a sister, Mary Darling of Old Orchard Beach.

Per Margaret’s request, the will be no visitation nor funeral services.

Those who desire may make memorial donations to their local (no kill) animal shelter.

Arrangements are by the Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home, 36 Portland Ave., Old Orchard Beach.
