LEWISTON — Wells finished second in both the boys and girls 3,200-meter relays as the Warriors fought hard for points at the Class B indoor track and field state championships held at Bates College’s Merrill Gymnasium Monday.
The girls 4×800 relay team finished second to Greely in the first event on the track Monday. The margin was less than three seconds.
The Wells boys team duplicated the feat as the Warriors placed second behind York by a 2.56 second margin.
On the boys side, the Warriors finished ninth in the team standings, with 16 points. York won the team title, as the Wildcats topped runner-up Old Town by a 71-59 margin.
In addition to the relay team, the Wells boys also got points from Hunter McDonell in the 400-meter dash (fifth place) and high jump (seventh place), and Reed Norton in 55- and 200-meter dashes (both sixth place finishes).
The Wells girls finished 15th out of 28 teams, with 10 points. Waterville beat out Greely for the team title.
Madison Szczygiel added to the Warriors’ point total with a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter run.
