BATH

A frozen sprinkler pipe burst and flooded the west wing of the Winship Green Center for Health & Rehabilitation in Bath on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the fire department log, the dispatcher described the situation as a “water issue” and the Bath Fire Department arrived onto the scene at 1:10 p.m. Within a few minutes of arrival, firefighters secured the sprinkler line and stopped the water flow. However, a lot of water was released until the valve was shut, said Marc Wood, captain of the Bath Fire Department.

“The hall had water flowing down to the outside door,” he added. “Two rooms close to where the pipe had been had four inches of water.”

The flooding occurred in the bathroom of one of the resident rooms. Patients were evacuated within the building and relocated to common areas of the building, according to Timothy Brown, the director of communications and public relations for the National Health Care Associates.

Patients directly affected by the flooding were moved to other available rooms.

While there was no life threat or injuries, the facility is still in the process of cleaning up and getting back in order, Brown said. Although the insurance company and fire marshal are still investigating the accident, Brown noted the broken pipe was likely due to weather.

Firefighters helped remove excess water from the building and cleared the scene at 4:04 p.m.
