The Bonny Eagle Robotics Team (BERT) is collecting donations of new unopened Lego or other brick construction kits for children of all ages for donation to the patients of the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital.

Collection boxes are located at the following schools and businesses in the Bonny Eagle area through Tuesday, March 31: Bonny Eagle High School, Bonny Eagle Middle School, George E. Jack Elementary, Edna Libby Elementary, Steep Falls Elementary, Hollis Elementary, Buxton Center Elementary, H.B. Emery Elementary, NAPA Auto Parts in Buxton, and Cradles and Crayons Daycare in Gorham.

The team will visit patients at the hospital in April to deliver the Lego toys and let the children drive BERT’s robot.

Bonny Eagle robotics program, established in 1996, is affiliated with the National Organization, FIRST, which is an acronym, “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology”. The goal of FIRST is to help high school students to become more involved with STEM – science, technology, engineering, and math. This goal is achieved by creating a game each year in which teams of students, parents, engineers, and mentors have six weeks to design and build a competition robot. This season’s game announcement and kick off was Jan. 3. BERT next competes at the FIRST Pine Tree District Competition at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. March 13 and 14. Admission is free.
