TOPSHAM — Kirk G. Favreau, of Topsham, passed away at home on Saturday, April 4, 2015, from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was 44.

Kirk was born in Portland on March 1, 1971, the son of Felix J. and Ruth H. Favreau. He graduated from Mt. Ararat High School in 1989 and from Unity College in 1993.

Kirk was employed at Bowdoin College, in groundskeeping, for 19 years. He started as a groundskeeper and worked his way up to grounds coordinator. In his role, Kirk affected the lives of nearly every person on campus — doing everything from landscaping and gardening, to arena maintenance and snow removal, while overseeing the day-to-day work of his dedicated crew.

Those who knew Kirk saw him as someone who cared deeply about his work, his friends and family. He was an avid fisherman and a respected cribbage and poker player, and known by all for his dry sense of humor. This even played out on his wedding day in 2014, when he chose the opening of striper season to be married so he wouldn’t forget his anniversary date.

Kirk is predeceased by his parents. He leaves behind his wife, Paula, his sister Carla Lovett, brother-in-law Stephen, niece Anne, extended family, and many close friends.
