PORTLAND — Helen Theresa Noonan, 91, of Portland, died peacefully on May 13.

Noonan was born in Portland on Feb. 23, 1924, the daughter of Michael J. and Annie (McDonough) Noonan. She attended Catholic schools in the city, and went on to work for many years for local telephone companies.

Born with a sense of creativity, she enjoyed sewing and arts-and-crafts. She lived an independent life at her home, but always took time out to tend her flower gardens and feed the birds in her back yard. In her younger years, she also loved to travel.

She was predeceased by her parents and six siblings.

She is survived by her nieces, nephews and extended family members, who extend special thanks to her caregivers, Wanda, Cindy, Linda Jane and Rita.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 21, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Jones-Rich-Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. that day at St. Joseph Church, 673 Stevens Ave., Portland. Committal prayers will follow at Calvary Cemetery, in South Portland.

In lieu of flowers, the Noonan family suggests that memorial donations be made in Helen’s name to the Sisters of the Precious Blood, 166 State St., Portland, ME 04101.
