MACHIAS (AP) — A landmark Machias restaurant renowned nationally for its blueberry pie and other desserts has reopened 10 months after it was destroyed by a fire.

Helen’s held a “soft” reopening in its new building on Tuesday for locals and loyal customers.

David Barker, who owns Helen’s with his wife, Julie, said people were waiting in the parking lot for the eatery to open for breakfast.

A more formal reopening is scheduled for July, exactly one year after the early morning fire that occurred when the restaurant was closed. No one was injured.
