WISCASSET
The Wiscasset High School baseball team has a new coach as the regular season nears a conclusion this week.
Mike Bowles, who coached the Wolverines for most of the past two seasons, has been replaced by Ryan Michaud, who takes over the squad immediately.
“Mike was just unable to finish out the season,” said Wiscasset athletic director Sarah Ricker, who said the change was a “mutual” decision.
Bowles led the Wolverines to the State Class D title game last season, with Wiscasset falling to Bangor Christian in eight innings. This year, Wiscasset has a 5-10 record, but has clinched a Western D playoff spot.
Michaud, in his first year teaching at Wiscasset High School, has coached junior varsity programs at Maranacook, Oak Hill and Lewiston.
“Ryan has a mindset of not changing things too much,” said Ricker. “Ryan knows a few of the kids, and is knowledgeable with the team. I am confident that he will do well and that the kids will be comfortable with him.”
Wiscasset is slated to host Oak Hill today at 4:30 p.m. in its Mountain Valley Conference regular season finale.
