New Hires, Promotions and Appointments

Mary Allen Lindemann, co-owner of Portland-based Coffee By Design, has been named to the board of directors of Androscoggin Bank’s MainStreet Foundation. Lindemann, of Portland, founded Coffee By Design with her husband in 1994, and today the company operates four coffeehouses and a roastery in the city. The MainStreet Foundation, a philanthropic arm of Androscoggin Bank, supports nonprofit groups that help children thrive.

Falmouth resident Leo Soucy recently joined Bath Savings Trust Co. as vice president, investment officer. Soucy holds an undergraduate degree in finance from the University of Maine and an M.B.A. from the Southern New Hampshire University, and brings nearly 30 years of investment experience to his role.

Bernstein Shur, a Portland-based law firm, has hired David Aborn, former associate regional counsel for the U.S.Department of Housing and Urban Development in northern New England. Aborn, who served with HUD for 38 years, will be of counsel in Berstein Shur’s government finance team.

Bath Housing Development Corp. recently hired Amy Liechty as program associate. Liechty previously worked in the veterans’ housing services division of Preble Street, a Portland-based social service agency. A licensed social worker, she holds a bachelor’s degree in human services with a focus in counseling and mental health.

Broadreach Public Relations, a Portland-based communications firm, has promoted Jillian Kanter to account executive and client operations coordinator. Kanter, of South Portland, joined the firm in 2013 and most recently served as assistant account executive. She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.

The YMCA of Southern Maine’s chief executive officer, Helen Breña, has been named to the board of directors of YMCA of the USA. The board oversees the 2,700 YMCA branches across the country, including the Southern Maine branch and its locations in Portland and Freeport. Breña has worked for the YMCA in Maine and Connecticut for over 25 years. She holds a master’s degree in professional accounting from the University of Hartford and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Amherst College.

Inn by the Sea, a luxury beach hotel in Cape Elizabeth, recently appointed Steve Sicinski as executive chef of Sea Glass, the hotel’s restaurant. Sicinski previously held similar positions at Mii amo Destination Spa, in Arizona, and Vermont’s Topnotch Resort and Spa. He earned a diploma of arts from Le Cordon Bleu at the Atlantic Culinary Academy and an associate’s degree from McIntosh College.

Recognition

Giovani “Gio” Twigge, a Cape Elizabeth resident and chief human resources officer of IDEXX Laboratories Inc., was recently named the 2015 HR Leader of the Year by the Maine affiliate of The Society for Human Resource Management. Twigge joined IDEXX, a manufacturer of pet health products and one of Maine’s largest employers, in 2010.

Giving Back

Subway restaurants in Maine to date have raised more than $14,000 to support military and veterans services provided through Easter Seals. In a seven-month campaign that runs through October, the fast-food chain is asking customers to donate a dollar when ordering sandwiches. Similar campaigns in New Hampshire and Vermont have so far raised a total of about $7,000. All donations will fund Easter Seals programs for military personnel and their families in the states where the donations are made.

New Beginnings

Benchmark Residential and Investment Real Estate has opened its third office, at 72 Pine St. in Portland’s West End. The real estate agency, owned by Tom Landry, is headquartered at 100 Congress St., Portland, and also has an office at 305 Commercial St., Portland.

Spurwink Services, a nonprofit provider of behavioral health and educational services, has opened a new office at 901A Washington Ave., Portland, a building formerly occupied by Martin’s Point Health Care. Spurwink’s headquarters remain at 899 Riverside St., Portland. Spurwink also operates a special education school, Glickman Academy, at 587 Ocean Ave., Portland.
