Students return from intensive research projects
WORCESTER, Mass. — The following local residents were among 21 students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute who recently completed intense, hands-on research projects: Kelly Beisswanger of Wells is a junior majoring in mechanical engineering who completed a project in Namibia titled Invasive Plant Species Management in Gibeon, Namibia; Casey Brown of Eliot is a junior majoring in aerospace engineering who completed a project in Zurich titled Broadening the Impact of a Low-Cost Heath Pump Fruit Dryer; and Nathaniel Porter of Old Orchard Beach is a junior majoring in biomedical engineering who completed a project in India titled Assessing Public Healthcare Infrastructure in Kamand.
MSSM hosts 20th Commencement
LIMESTONE—Forty-five students throughout Maine and beyond graduated from the Maine School of Science and Mathematics during commencement exercises that took place on June 1 in the Boothby Auditorium. York County MSSM’s graduates included: Ethan Eymontt of Cape Neddick and Andrew Reilley of West Kennebunk.
Perez participates in internship program
ORONO, Maine —Laura Perez, of Biddeford, an international affairs major at the University of Maine is an intern participating in the 2015 Maine Government Summer Internship Program that began May 26. Through the program, college students intern in various state agencies.
The Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center at the University of Maine administers the 2015 Maine Government Summer Internship Program ”“ a full-time, 12-week, paid work experience.
Students’ majors include political science, economics, engineering and environmental science. Most study at in-state colleges and universities, while others are Maine residents pursuing their education out of state.
For many years, the program has offered a unique opportunity for talented college students to work within Maine state government. Interns provide valuable assistance to state agencies while gaining practical and professional skills in their fields of study. Most interns are based in Augusta, while others travel to work in various parts of the state.
Prescott graduates from the University of Mary Washington
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Sabia C. Prescott of York graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in linguistics. She received departmental honors in English, linguistics, and communication.
Bridget O’Keefe earns spot on YSU president’s list
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Bridget O’Keefe of Sanford, has been named to the president’s list at Youngstown State University for the spring 2015 semester. O’Keefe is majoring in social work.
Local resident receives degrees from Michigan Tech
HOUGHTON, Mich. — Erik Leslie, son of Barbara and Scott Leslie, graduate of Kennebunk High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at Michigan Technological University at spring commencement on May 2.
York County students graduate from Saint Anselm College
Manchester, N.H. — The following local students graduated from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. on May 17: Elizabeth V. Antaya earned a bachelor’s degree and majored in nursing, Lyndsay S. Davis earned a bachelor’s degree and majored in nursing and Danielle Elizabeth Puopolo earned a bachelor’s degree and majored in psychology, all of Berwick; Griffin J. Roberge of South Berwick earned a bachelor’s degree and majored in politics; and Franklin Joseph Taylor of York earned a bachelor’s degree and majored in sociology.
Local resident graduates from Salve Regina University
NEWPORT, R.I. — Kaitlin Mackenzie of Kennebunk graduated from Salve Regina University cum laude on May 17 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Mackenzie is a member of Alpha Mu Alpha international honor society of the American Marketing Association, and Sigma Beta Delta national honor society for business students.

Jane Miller graduates from Union College
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Jane Miller of Kennebunkport graduated as a member of the Class of 2015 at Union College during the college’s 221st commencement exercises on June 14. Miller graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree, majoring in psychology and visual arts. Miller is a 2011 graduate of Hyde School.

Robinson saluted for academic excellence
ONEONTA, N.Y. — Junior Amanda Robinson of Saco is the recipient of The Baker-Simpson Entrepreneurial Fellowship and The Community Bank N.A. Scholarship in Memory of Linda S. French ”˜85. As envisioned by Simon Baker, Class of 1993, and funded by him and his partners, the 2015 Baker-Simpson Fellows will spend their summer immersed in a start-up business where they will contribute to every aspect of the enterprise. UNITY — Connor P. Shaw, son of George and Ruth Shaw of Saco, was named to the honors list at Unity College for the spring semester. Shaw is a third year student majoring in conservation/law.
Danton makes dean’s list at St. Leo University
OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Peter Danton of Old Orchard Beach, son of William and Anastasia Danton, has made dean’s list for the spring semester at St. Leo University in St. Leo, Florida. He is transferring into the honors program at University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida in the fall. Danton is a graduate of Thornton Academy in Saco, Class of 2014.
