FREEPORT — The occupants of a vehicle that rolled over and caught fire on Interstate 295 in Freeport Sunday morning escaped serious injury.

The crash was reported at 9:24 a.m. on Interstate 295 southbound, near mile marker 21. Maine State Trooper Jessica Shorey said Ashley Aldrich, 30, of Bowdoin was driving the vehicle and told Shorey it hydroplaned causing her to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle rolled onto its side in the passing lane. The engine compartment caught fire and Shorey said the local fire department was on scene and had the fire out before she arrived.

There was also an adult and two children who were passengers in the vehicle. There were complaints of pain but no one was transported to the hospital, Shorey said. The driver was issued a summons for not having vehicle insurance.
