BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The Portland Sea Dogs (30-53) received a strong start from Justin Haley and defeated the Binghamton Mets (41-40), 6-1 on Saturday night at NYSEG Stadium.
Haley (3-9) set the tone with six scoreless frames on four hits, one walk and six strikeouts to earn the win. The righty has all three wins on the road, and held the Mets 0-for-7 with runnersin scoring position.
The Sea Dogs took advantage of two Binghamton errors, receiving three unearned runs. In the first, Eudy Pina dropped a fly ball in right, putting runners at first and second. Jantzen Witte and Sam Travis delivered sacrifice fly balls.
Mets righty John Gant (2-4) took the loss, allowing three unearned runs on six hits over six innings.
Portland made it 3-0 in the fourth inning off Gant. Witte led off with a double and scored on a two-out triple by Manuel Margot. In the fifth, Carlos Asuaje nailed an RBI single.
Portland and Binghamton wraps up the three-game Eastern League series tonight at 6:35 p.m.
