BRUNSWICK — The American Cancer Society is inviting dogs and their owners to participate in a Bark for Life event from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the downtown Brunswick Mall. The event is a noncompetitive walk for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society’s local programs and services for cancer patients and survivors, their families, and caregivers.

Unlike the Relay for Life of Brunswick, which has humans walking around the Brunswick High School track over the course of an entire evening, the Bark for Life is an afternoon event that kicks off with an opening ceremony at noon, a one-mile walk for owners and their dogs, followed by a celebration of the caregiving qualities of dogs friends including a variety of activities and information booths.

According to the Society, canine companions demonstrate unconditional love, joy, security, compassion, and no judgments of cancer survivors’ abilities or appearances.

Participants may sign up as individuals or as a team with family and friends. The registration fee is $20 for an owner and one dog; $40 for an owner with multiple dogs. Although there is no minimum amount to raise, we ask each owner to set a personal goal of raising $100 to help fight cancer.
