ARUNDEL — Both Biddeford and Marshwood picked up two individual wins, while the other two matchups ended in draws. That meant the season-opening SMAA golf match would come down to the team score, which ended up giving the Tigers the 7-6 win as they edged the Hawks 225-227 at Dutch Elm Golf Club Wednesday.

The No. 1 players for both teams – Biddeford’s Jason Vadnais and Marshwood’s Tucker Etro – both shot a 38 on the par-36 front nine to split two points and low medalist honors.

Biddeford’s Mike Reisfelder shot a 44 and Andrew Howe had a 46 to win their matches and Logan Magnant tied his opponent to add a point for the Tigers.

Marshwood’s Noah Jule and Baili Langstin-Heabon each won their matches.

YARMOUTH 7, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 0

OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The Old Orchard Beach golf team struggled in its season opener as the Seagulls were shut out by visiting Yarmouth 7-0 at Dunegrass Golf Club on Wednesday.

Yarmouth won all six head-to-head matches and cruised to a 202-247 win in the team race.

Wyatt Toohey led Old Orchard Beach with a nine-hole score of 55. Nate Doody carded a 56 and Max Warden finished with a 63 for the Seagulls.

Yarmouth was led by low-medalist Mac Leahy, who fired a 44, and Nate Dealaman, who finished with a 46.

KENNEBUNK 11, SANFORD 2

KENNEBUNK — The host Rams won four matches outright and earned points in the other two as they picked up the win over Sanford in the season opener for both teams at Webhannet Golf Club Wednesday.

Kennebunk’s Jonah Gauthier and Sanford’s Luke Lapierre shared low-medalist honors with a pair of 41s, but Gauthier took 1 1/2 out of the two points in the match with a win in match-play.

The Rams received wins from Eli Clark (44), Nate LaPointe (46), Owen Manahan (47) and Steve Anastas (48).

Sanford’s Dean Johnson picked up a close 48-49 win over Spencer Desrochers.

Kennebunk won the team battle by a 226-246 count.

WELLS 5, FREEPORT 2

CAPE NEDDICK — Mikey Stivaletta and Kent Kellar both shot rounds of 46 to help lead host Wells to a 5-2 victory over Freeport in a WMC golf season opener at Cape Neddick Country Club Wednesday.

Other individual winners for Wells were Tom Bucacci and Nate Olsen.

Seamus McDonough was the low Wells player, with a 44, but he was edged by the Falcons’ Jeremiah Frick-Theberge, who shot a match-low 43.

Wells won the team medal, 183-208.
