Brunswick jayvee Orange ties with Mt. Ararat

BRUNSWICK — Haile Cummings scored two goals in less than five minutes to draw the Brunswick High School jayvee Orange girls soccer team level with Mt. Ararat in recent action.

Cummings drove through the defense on her first goal with just over four minutes remaining.

With just over one minute left, Kambria Carlile crossed the ball from deep in the right corner and Cummings fought through the crowd to tie the game.

Other notable players during the game were Tess Alexander and Mattie Donovan.

BATH — The International Association of Approved Basketball Officials 21 will be holding rules instruction for prospective basketball officials.

Candidates must be 18 years of age to take the test and work in the 2015-2016 season.

If you have played the game, and still enjoy being involved, and would like to make extra money, this may be a good outlet for you.

The first class will be held: Oct. 8, at 6 p.m. at the Bath Recreation Center.

Bowdoin College men’s tennis opens season

BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin College men’s tennis team started its 2015-16 season by hosting the Bowdoin Invitational at Pickard Tennis Courts over the weekend.

The field consisted of predetermined singles and doubles matches against Division I programs Marist and Quinnipiac.

The Polar Bears more than held their own against the high-level competition, recording an 18-18 overall record for the weekend.

Luke Trinka and Luke Tercek played well, both racking up 5-1 records including 2-1 as a doubles pairing.

Trinka lost a total of 10 games in six sets against his singles competition, while Tercek lost one singles set.

The Polar Bears will return to the courts September 25-27 at the ITA New England Championships hosted by Williams.

Mt. Ararat frosh soccer downs rival Dragons

TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat High School freshmen boys soccer team improved to 1-2 on the season when it earned its first win by beating Brunswick, 3-1 on Monday.

Hunter Lohr got the first goal for the Eagles, while Ethan Rac had the next two.

Rac’s first goal was on a penalty kick and his second was assisted by Jax Hollenbach.

Also playing well for the Eagles were Tristan Burch, Nathan Kofroth, Daniel Pratt, Will San Pedro, Riley Gilson and Brewster Chard.
