NEW YORK — Amir Johnson scored 19 points, Isaiah Thomas had 17 and nine assists, and the Boston Celtics beat the Brooklyn Nets 109-105 on Wednesday night.

Evan Turner finished with 10 points, seven assists and five rebounds in his first action of the preseason. The Celtics played their first game in the U.S. and against an NBA team after opening exhibition play with two victories, one in Italy and the other in Spain.

Thaddeus Young had 19 points and eight rebounds for Brooklyn.

Jae Crowder, Kelly Olynyk and rookie R.J. Hunter finished with 11 points apiece for Boston.

Shane Larkin got the start at point guard for the Nets and scored 10 points. Brook Lopez scored 12 but took just six shots.

Brooklyn point guard Jarrett Jack was ejected in the second quarter for a flagrant foul. He turned the ball over, then raced back to throw his shoulder into Jonas Jerebko to prevent a fast-break basket.

The Celtics played without guard Marcus Smart, who has strep throat and probably wouldn’t be available for the team’s Friday night game against the Knicks. Boston will remain in New York to face the Knicks.

Kawhi Leonard scrored a game-high 20 points for the Spurs, who were without forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who had back spasms. Matt Bonner started in his place.

HORNETS 113, CLIPPERS 71: Al Jefferson scored 17 points and Nicolas Batum added 14 with 10 rebounds to lead the Charlotte at Shanghai in the second preseason NBA game between the teams in China.

The Hornets went on a 36-8 run after halftime and took a 36-point lead with 8:26 remaining.
