ORRINGTON — A python that has been missing since July has been returned to its owner in Maine.

WCSH-TV reports authorities say Mr. Smithers, a ball python who slithered away from his Orrington home more than three months ago, was found just two doors away.

Valerie Nason feared the pet python had died until her neighbor Karen Ramsey called 911 last Wednesday reporting she had found the missing snake.

Nason says she was cleaning outside a greenhouse and nearly stepped on the snake when she went to step on a bench.

Animal control officers returned Mr. Smithers to Nason. She is trying to nurse him back to health.

Nason says she’s glad he has returned and that he’s doing OK so far.
