Revolution win, clinch fifth seed in playoffs
Charlie Davies had a goal and an assist and the New England Revolution clinched a Major League Soccer playoff spot with a 3-1 victory over New York City FC on Sunday.
Fifth-seeded New England (14-12-8, 50 points) snapped a four-game winless streak and will travel to face fourth-seeded D.C. United (15-13-6, 51 points) in the Eastern Conference knockout round on Wednesday or Thursday. New York City (10-17-7, 37 points) ends its inaugural season with a three-game losing streak.
• Didier Drogba scored twice inside a minute early in the second half, and the Montreal Impact beat Toronto FC 2-1 in Montreal in their regular-season finale to secure a home playoff date.
The Impact (15-13-6) moved into third place and Toronto (15-15-4) fell to sixth in the Eastern Conference, so Montreal will be at home when the teams meet again in a playoff game.
• Sebastien Le Toux converted a penalty kick in the 41st minute and Andre Blake earned the shutout in the Philadelphia Union’s 1-0 victory in Chester, Pennsylvania, that knocked Orlando City out of playoff contention.
• Jack McInerney scored in the 25th minute and Ethan Finlay added a pair of second-half goals a minute apart as the Columbus Crew wrapped up second place in the Eastern Conference with a 5-0 victory over D.C. United in Columbus, Ohio.
U.S. WOMEN: Alex Morgan, Crystal Dunn and Stephanie McCaffrey scored to help the U.S beat Brazil 3-1 in an exhibition game before an announced crowd of 32,869 in Orlando, Florida.
It was the Americans’ second victory in a week over Brazil as the U.S. continues its World Cup victory tour.

NBA: LeBron James went through a full practice with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the first time since he received an anti-inflammatory injection in his back.

Coach David Blatt described James’ practice as “a good step” and said it “bodes well” for the four-time MVP to face the Bulls to begin his 13th NBA season.

The 6-foot-10 Sims signed with the Suns on Sept. 16. He appeared in all six Phoenix preseason games.
