BOSTON (AP) — A former suburban Boston police officer has admitted to beating a handcuffed detainee and filing a false report about the attack.

Felix Rivera Jr., of Lynn, pleaded guilty Tuesday to misdemeanor counts of assault and battery and filing a false report as a public employee. The former Chelsea police officer was sentenced to two years of probation.

Prosecutors said 34- year-old Rivera hit the man several times and knocked him to the ground on Sept. 26, 2014, after detaining him for allegedly disrupting an investigation into a shooting in Chelsea. The victim suffered a damaged jaw and other injuries.

Prosecutors say Rivera wrote in a police report that the victim was brought to the ground after he pushed another officer.
