She was the 13th child in a family of 15 children born to Theophile Soucy and Olive Dumont.
She received her elementary education at Lincoln School, Grand Isle, and graduated from St. Joseph High School in Lawrence, Massachusetts. After graduation, Homerine entered the Congregation of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec) on Aug. 25, 1941, in Biddeford.
After making her vows, she continued her education obtaining her bachelor’s degree in fine arts and French from St. Joseph’s College in North Windham and a master’s degree in religious studies and theology from the University of Detroit. Sister taught in Old Town, Van Buren, Caribou in Maine and at Mt. Carmel School in Methuen, Massachusetts. Following those 12 years of teaching, Sr. Homerine became director of vocations, the first in the community to hold this post, which she held for eight years.
From 1974-90, she directed religious education and pastoral care at St. John’s Center, South Portland, the Christian Living Center, Grand Isle, Notre Dame Religious Education Center, Springvale, and St. Andre Health Care facility, Biddeford. Returning to St. Joseph Convent, she directed music for liturgies and social functions, while continuing pastoral care at Good Shepherd Pavilion, especially through music therapy.
Survivors are a host of nieces and nephews, one of whom is a Marist priest ministering in New Caledonia.
The wake will be at St. Joseph Convent, 409 Pool St., Biddeford, on Sunday, Nov. 29 from 6-8 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 30 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will also be held at St. Joseph Convent on Monday, Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Biddeford.
