SANFORD — Three local wrestlers came home with fourth-place finishes at the rugged Spartan Wrestling Annual Tournament over the weekend.
Biddeford’s Dwayne Dyer finished fourth in the 138-pound bracket, while Sanford’s Sam Anderson (170) and Mike Hurst (195) also finished fourth.
Anderson just missed out on a trip to the 170-pound finals as he fell to eventual champion Dylan Tremblay (Timberlane) by a 6-4 score in the semifinals.
Biddeford’s Shayne Welch came home with a fifth-place finish at 195 pounds, while his teammate, Chris Lantagne, was sixth at 220 pounds.
Massabesic takes second at tough tourney
The Massabesic Mustangs went 3-1 on Saturday as they earned a second-place finish in the tough John Stark Duals in Weare, New Hampshire.
The Mustangs took down Bellow Falls (Vermont) 54-24 in the opening round.
Massabesic went on to beat St. Johnsbury (Vermont) by a 47-36 score and then picked up a 45-32 win over Boston College Prep.
The Mustangs fell to St. John’s Prep (Massachusetts) by a 51-21 score in the finals.
