BRUNSWICK

A tractor trailer truck off the road along Route 1 Tuesday morning slowed traffic and it was about three hours before a wrecker company was able to remove it.

The incident was initially reported at 4:23 a.m. just east of Cook’s Corner. Brunswick Police Lt. Tom Garrepy said a 2012 Freightliner tractor trailer truck traveling northbound on Route 1 when the driver, Stephen Milne, 57, of Steep Falls told police he lost control trying to avoid a deer and ended up off the road.

Milne complained of back pain and was transported to Mid Coast Hospital. Brunswick Fire Department responded to assist with traffic control.

The tractor trailer truck belongs to Delhaiez America Transportation out of Salisbury, N.C. and was carrying general freight. Hunters Towing out of Lisbon Falls responded with two trucks and moved the truck. At one point at least traffic was at a standstill.

Garrepy said the trailer sustained some damage when the truck jackknifed. He said Wednesday no charges have been filed.
