WATERVILLE — A Maine city council will consider letting its manager try to sell city-owned land to a college that wants to build a student dormitory there.
The Morning Sentinel reports the Waterville council will decide Tuesday if City Manager Michael Roy can start negotiations with Colby College to sell part of the city’s downtown parking lot.
If the city decides to sell the land and the school decides to buy it, councilors will have to vote again on an order for the sale.
Colby spokeswoman Ruth Jacobs Jackson said Monday that having more people live downtown will help the city’s revitalization efforts.
Roy says the building would have to be commercial on the first floor to comply with zoning laws. He says he’s hoping the sale happens this year.
