AUGUSTA (AP) — An Appalachian Trail hiker whose remains were found in Maine last year after she’d been missing for more than two years died insider her sleeping bag inside her tent, an autopsy report shows.

WMTW-TV quotes the report as saying that the moisture resistant fabric of the tent and her sleeping bag protected 66-year-old Geraldine Largay’s body for weeks after her death and likely prevented K9s from picking up a scent during the search for her.

Largay, of Brentwood, Tennessee, went off the trail in July 2013 in western Maine. Her remains were found in October.

The medical examiner determined Largay died of starvation and exposure.
