Durene C. (Stover) Carleton, 67 of West Bath Maine, passed away peacefully on March 14th after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Born in Tennessee on July 30th 1948 to Patricia (Duren) and Austin Stover. She moved to Bath at a young age and attended Bath Schools and graduated Morse High School Class of 1966.

She married James F Carleton November 30th 1968. She worked as a telephone operator in Bath and later in Minot North Dakota where James was stationed in the Air Force. In 1972 they moved to West Bath where they built their home.

Durene had a passion for crafts. She loved to knit, working with ceramics, and was an exceptional seamstress, making a lot of her daughters clothes. She also was an avid reader and would often read several books in a week. Durene loved gardening and had beautiful rock gardens. She also enjoyed camping with her family at Mt. Blue State

Park in Weld Maine.

She is survived by James her husband of 48 years. Her three daughters Sarah Carleton of Freeport Maine, Elizabeth Carleton of Freeport Maine and Rebecca Carleton of Madison Wisconsin. Three grandsons Wyatt, Noah and John of Freeport. Her sister Karen (Stover) Danforth and her husband Thomas of Rangeley Maine. Her brother in law Lee Carlton of Bangor Maine. Her sister in law Julie Carleton of West Bath, and her three nieces Joline, Robyn and Aimee and her only nephew Sean.

A celebration of her life event will be held at Mae’s Cafe and Bakery on April 2nd at 3pm.
