BRUNSWICK

A hiring event sponsored by the Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber, Maine Career- Center and Coastal Communities Workforce, Inc. will take place Wednesday featuring more than 50 employers with vacancies ready to fill.

Carolyn Farkas-Noe of the chamber said this event, now in its fifth year, is the largest one so far. Shying from the label “job fair,” Farkas-Noe said calling it a hiring event sounded more positive. After all, she said, “They’re hiring.”

Some of the businesses that will be at the event include Bath Iron Works, Independence Association, Owens Corning Composite

Materials and SaviLinx. Companies representing virtually all facets of service and business will be present, providing something for just about any job seeker. SaviLinx recently announced 200 new job openings that are ready to be filled, troubleshooting inbound calls for a federal contract it recent- ly acquired.

Farkas-Noe said the CareerCenter also has a list of these employers and the jobs they need to fill to assist their clients in finding work.

“All over, especially southern Maine — it’s a job seeker’s heaven and there’s plenty of jobs out there and not enough people to fill them,” Farkas-Noe said.

Farkas-Noe said that most of the chamber members are small businesses, so it’s a really big investment for them to take on new hires. She said it points to a positive trend when such businesses are looking to hire as they are truly looking for quality, stable employment for their people.

“We just want to make sure everybody who wants a job has one,” Farkas-Noe said.

The event will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 2 Columbus Drive, Brunswick, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
