
ON HIS FINAL DAY after 40 years with the Freeport Police Department, Freeport Police Chief Gerald Schofield walks through a gauntlet of saluting officers before he was escorted home on Friday. He retires after having served as the department’s chief since 1988. He began as a patrolman for Freeport in 1976.
