She was born in New York City Hospital, NY, the daughter of the late Mario and Margaret McKnight Messa on March 27th, 1941. She was one of six children and grew up in Montclair, New Jersey. Jean was a graduate of Montclair High School and went on to attend college at Jackson College, Tufts University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and taught fourth grade in both California and Massachusetts. She took time off to raise a family but returned to education as a Title One tutor in Maine.
Jean was a faithful and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She loved the Lord and used her talents and abilities for Him throughout her life. She was a long-time member of Berean Baptist Church in Brunswick, Maine where she put her love of music to use by playing the piano for church and nursing home ministries, singing for special music and in the choir, directing the adult choir, coaching teenage musical groups for competition, and writing and directing Christmas programs. Jean also served the Lord over the years as both a Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher, an Awana Leader, a deaconess, and spent many hours using her gift of mercy with different ladies in the church.
Jean Gordon Warman will be sadly missed but those who know of her strong faith in
Jesus, know that she is in Heaven today with her Savior.
Jean was predeceased by a brother Donald Messa and two sisters, Diane Varela and Carolyn Foster.
Survivors include her faithful husband of 50 years, David A. Warman; daughter Joy Colban and her husband Thomas of Epping, NH; sisters Elizabeth Beers and her husband Gregory of Lunenburg, MA, Beatrice Woodard and her husband Geoffrey of Glen Mills, PA; grandchildren Emily, Benjamin and Aidan Colban of Epping, NH; brothers in-law Venancio Varela of Spain and Gregory Foster of Wiscasset, ME; sisters-in-law Mary Messa of Essex Junction, VT, Donna Mitchell and husband Arthur of Temple, ME, Diane Clark and husband Stanley of Corinth, ME; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A time of visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Friday, April 15, at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 16, at 11am at Berean Baptist Church, 15 Cumberland St., Brunswick, with Pastor Mark Rockwood officiating.
