Poetry month observances

Two events featuring local poets will observe National Poetry Month in Portland and Westbrook.

Maine Historical Society, 489 Congress St., is hosting a program with local poets Linda Aldrich, Jim Donnelly and Ed Rielly at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21. If weather permits, readings will be in the Longfellow House Garden or otherwise in the Shettleworth Lecture Hall.

Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St., is observing National Poetry Month with Westbrook poets Nate Amadon, Anna Wrobel, Donnelly and Rielly from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 28.

Gill honored

Danene Gill of Westbrook has been named to the president’s list for the fall semester at Husson University in Bangor.

Gill is a sophomore who is enrolled in Husson’s bachelor of science program in business administration.

Children at You N’ Me Nursery School at the Westbrook Regional Vocational Center are now enjoying an indoor igloo constructed from hundreds of milk jugs. The 8-foot-diameter by 6-foot-high structure was built in March with help from volunteer parents Alisha Bailey and Katy Rice and was completed in just under four hours. Oakhurst Dairy donated 480 milk jugs for the project. Darlene Bruns, the instructor of the Early Childhood Occupation Education class, thanked the parents and students of the program who helped bring the igloo from concept to reality.
