
She was born Aug. 7, 1939, in Biddeford, a daughter of Alfred and Rose (Lagrange) Toutant, and was educated locally.
Rita worked at Biddeford Textile and West Point Pepperell for 30 years. She enjoyed ceramics, baking, music, and entertaining her friends and family.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Jennifer Champagne.
She is survived by: one son, Paul Champagne of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Claire Champagne of Biddeford, and JoAn Spaulding of Deltona, Florida; three brothers, Gilles Toutant of Saco, Roger Toutant of Portland, and Andrew Toutant of Biddeford; grandchildren Jodi Morris of Saco, Lisa Spaulding of Deltona, Florida, and Shannon Martin of North Carolina; great-grandchildren Lucas Harris, Lawrence Morris and Aubriana Harris, all of Saco; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. A service will follow at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
