The Binghamton Mets (9- 9) scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back, completing a three-game Eastern League sweep of the Portland Sea Dogs (6-15) with a 6-0 win on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium.
Binghamton’s Tyler Pill earned his first win of the season, cruising through eight innings on just four hits and four strikeouts. Ty Buttrey (0-4) lasted only 2 2/3 innings on four runs (one earned), taking the loss for Portland.
The Sea Dogs have suffered seven straight losses and eight straight on the road. The opponent has pitched a quality start in seven straight.
Former Sea Dog Derrik Gibson led off the first with a double and scored on an error by Wendell Rijo. Dominic Smith drove home the second run with a single and LJ Mazzilli added a two run double.
Heri Quevedo pitched 3 1/3 innings on two hits, one run, two walks and three strikeouts. Williams Jerez pitched a scoreless seventh and Rob Wort allowed an unearned run in the eighth.
