Ex-superintendent

honored in Mass.

Dr. Reza Namin, former Westbrook school superintendent, has been recognized as the 2016 outstanding educator by the Massachusetts Coalition for Adult Education. Namin is the chief academic officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Office of the Sheriff. He served as the superintendent of schools in Westbrook,  and Spencer East Brookfield Regional School and Ralph C. Mahar Regional School District in Massachusetts. The award will be presented during the coalition’s award luncheon at the Network Conference on May 13. He is a resident of Old Orchard Beach.

Seniors to meet

Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 2, in Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St. Ann McAlpine, spokeswoman for the group, said Richard Lewis, an Elvis Presley impersonator, will provide the entertainment. Historical society hears

talk on Bill Clarke

Westbrook Historical Society will learn about the longtime city clerk Bill Clarke when it meets at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, at Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St.

The event, at the Westbrook Middle School cafeteria, highlighted the cuisine, music and culture of various home countries of the center’s members. The Intercultural Community Center, located on Patrick Drive, is connected to the Bethel Christian Center, and provides after school programming for students and other support services for adults, including English Language Learner classes.
