The Trojans won the match 5-0, winning all five games in two sets, while also not allowing Wesbrook to win more than two rounds.
TA coach Andrew Carlson is pleased with his team’s hot start, especially against some respectable programs.
“Its good to start the season off with three wins in a row. These games have been a challenge for us, especially in our last two matches where we have faced two of the better programs in the state,” said Carslon. “I think we came out a little nervous since it is early in the season, but these wins will bode well for us for the rest of the year.”
Dari Vyhodtsev, Viktor Schwartz and Jack Xiao all won their singles matches in two sets, each set 6-0.
Adam Lovejoy and Asher Thompson won their doubles match for TA, winning in two sets, each 6-1, while teammates Simon Billiveau and Jackson Dohse also won their doubles match in two sets, each 6-1.
Carlson believes TA’s greatest asset is its depth, boasting talent up and down the lineup. With the amount of depth and limited roster spots, Carlson believes the competition in practice helps prepare his players for gameday.
“We have a lot of talent and we are deep. We play nine deep which is good because it makes it competitive in practice and pushes our guys,” said Carlson.
Although TA has a perfect record early in the year, Carlson has stressed the importance of not taking success for granted, and to keep trying to improve each match.
“We have had a lot of success, but I always make sure our guys respect our opponents, and even when we face opponents that may not be as good there are always positives we are looking to take from each match,” said Carlson. “We hope to take this momentum and build on it moving forward.”
Considering the impressive performances to start the year, Carlson hopes that his team will continue to play consistent as the year progresses.
“Our goal is to keep playing consistent. We want to keep putting the ball in play, keep serving well and win each game. If we keep doing that we will put ourselves in a position to be successful.”
Carlson believes consistency begins with smart play, something the Trojans have done all season long.
“Our guys have been playing great so far, they’ve been playing with a lot of mental sharpness. That is key in this game, to be mentally sharp each match.”
