Library holds creative map-making workshop

On Thursday, May 5, at 6:30 p.m., the Thomas Memorial Library in Cape Elizabeth will hold a creative map-making session with Molly Holmberg Brown. This event is free and open to the public, but participation is limited to 20 pre-registration required. See www.thomasmemoriallibrary.org or call 799-1720 to sign up or for more information.

A Portland-based cartographer, Brown combines cartographic design and landscape art to create unique visual expressions of geography. She will share examples of her work and then lead participants through the process of making their own small maps of places that they love.

Spring clean up at land trust office

The Cape Elizabeth Land Trust is holding an annual spring clean up of the grounds at its office on Friday, May 6, 2-5 p.m. Volunteers welcome. See www.capelandtrust.org or call 767-6054 for more information or to sign up.

Student artists celebrated

An opening reception for the Regional High School Art Show at Casco Bay Artisans will be held on Friday, May 6, 5-8 p.m. Students from both Cape Elizabeth and South Portland high schools will have pieces on display.

The art gallery is located at 68 Commercial St. in Portland and the reception is free and open to the public. The student art will also be on display during regular gallery hours through May 11. See the gallery’s Facebook page for more information.

Fish dinner at St. Max

On Friday, May 6, 5-6:30 p.m., St. Maximilian-Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Road in Scarborough, will hold a fish dinner fundraiser. The cost is $9 for adults, $5 for kids under 12 and $28 for families. Pay at the door.

Scarborough Grounds holds Library Day

Saturday, May 7, is Library Day at Scarborough Grounds. From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., proceeds from a portion of sales at Scarborough Grounds, 264 U.S. Route 1, will be donated to the Scarborough Public Library. Call 289-1100 for more information.

Two years ago the library partnered with Scarborough Grounds to create a special Library Blend coffee and 1-pound bags of whole beans and ground Library Blend continue to be available from both the library and at Scarborough Grounds.

Fundraiser with comedian Bob Marley

On Tuesday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m., the Morrison Center, 60 Chamberlain Road in Scarborough, will host a fundraiser featuring comedian Bob Marley. The evening also includes a silent auction, light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased online at www.morrison-maine.org or by calling 883-6680.

Harp Twins in concert

On Tuesday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m., young harpists and twins Camille and Kennerly Kitt will appear in concert at the Thomas Memorial Library in Cape Elizabeth.

Bird walks start at Audubon Center

The Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center will resume its seasonal Wednesday Morning Bird Walk May 11 at 7 a.m. The cost is $3 for members and $5 non-members. Look for snowy egret, glossy ibis, herons, willet, sparrows and more. Tours start at the nature center, on Route 9, and participants then carpool to birding hotspots. Medicare fraud session at Scarborough library

As part of its Senior Series, the Scarborough Public Library will hold a workshop on Medicare fraud at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11. The event is free. See www.scarboroughlibrary.org or call 883-4723.

Paul Doherty of Southern Maine Agency on Aging will discuss the importance of protecting Medicare numbers and the rules to follow when dealing with health care providers and pharmacies.

Land trust offers online survey on Robinson Woods access

The Cape Elizabeth Land Trust is asking the public to participate in an online survey about public access rules at Robinson Woods. Take the survey at www.capelandtrust.org. The current plan went into effect on May 1, 2015, and is designed to preserve and protect the natural habitat and wildlife in the Robinson Woods Preserve.
