Scleroderma walk set for May 21

The seventh annual “Hardy Mainers Stepping Out for a Cure for Scleroderma” will be held, rain or shine, Saturday, May 21, starting at Riverbank Park in Westbrook.

Sign-in begins at 10 a.m. and the 5K walk steps off at noon. There will be a raffle and food available after the walk. There is no minimum registration fee and all donations are welcome.

Proceeds will support the Scleroderma Foundation New England Chapter in fulfilling its mission of providing educational and emotional support to people with scleroderma and their families; funding research to find a cure; and enhancing public awareness about this disease.

Free dinner location change

Hazel Maloney, a spokeswoman for Trinity Lutheran Church, has announced a location change for the free Wednesday dinner that the church co-sponsors. The site of the meal is relocating to the Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St., from its previous site at My Place Teen Center.

The location change began May 4. The meal will continue to be served from 5-6 p.m. on Wednesdays and there is plenty of free parking. The buiilding is handicapped accessible.

The meal is sponsored in partnership with Trinity Lutheran Church, Wayside Food Programs and Westbrook Community Center.

“All are welcome for a free, nutritious meal and fellowship,” Maloney said.
