BRUNSWICK
A Brunswick officer on patrol spooked a man into the woods at midnight Friday, where he hid from police until a police dog sniffed him out.
Brunswick Police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said Officer Jerod Verrill was checking businesses on Cressey Road when he saw a car around midnight. The driver didn’t move, but one person fled into the woods.
The driver, Errol Flynn Staples, 31, of Topsham, was arrested. Hagan said Staples had a warrant of arrest out of Lincoln County for failure to appear, and violated his conditions of release. He was allegedly in possession of a scheduled Z drug, in pill form. Staples posted the $500 bail and has a Lincoln County court date of June 30.
Freeport officer Matthew Moorhouse arrived at 12:27 a.m. Saturday with his K9 and the two found Jason Baucom, 32, of Bath, a short distance in the woods from the car.
Hagan said Baucom was found with a used hypodermic needle and used spoon. He was summonsed for unlawful possession of a scheduled Z drug, and sale and use of drug paraphernalia. He was given a West Bath District Court date of July 5.
