PORTLAND — The Sea Dogs (11-23) recorded 13 hits – their most since opening night at Hadlock Field vs. Hartford – and defeated the Binghamton Mets (14-17) 6-2 in the series opener Thursday night at Hadlock Field.
Making his Hadlock Field debut and playing in his second game as a Sea Dog, Nate Freiman finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Freiman had a twoout, RBI double in the first and a two-out, two-run double in the seventh. Ryan Court went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI, three runs scored, and a walk. Cole Sturgeon (2-4, 2B, R) and Henry Ramos (2-4, RBI, R) each added two hits apiece.
Keith Couch (W, 1-0) held the B-Mets scoreless through his six-plus innings of work, earning his first win as a Sea Dog since 8/22/14 at New Hampshire. Couch allowed six hits while walking one and striking out five. The win was the 20th of his Sea Dogs career.
